Trafford Sports Council Executive aims to aid and and facilitate development of sport across the Borough and support those who are involved in the delivery of sport in whatever way they can.
Background
Since the 1960’s local Sports Councils have been operating continuously in Altrincham, Sale Stretford and Urmston when Urban District Councils were the local authorities. In 1972 the Government established Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council and the Trafford Sports Council was established in 1976 amalgamating the North and South Trafford Sports Councils.
Membership of the TSpC is open to any sports club in Trafford and the executive committee is elected by these sports clubs at the Annual General Meeting. Trafford Councilors, Sports development officers and Sport England NW Region are eligible to attend meetings, ex-officio, by request or invitation.
Trafford Sports Council is an independent body who work in partnership with Sports Development and Trafford Community Leisure Trust. It provides the Clubs in Trafford with:
- Coach Education Courses (other than national body Coach education):
- A communication channel between sports clubs and Sports organisations:
- A help line for Clubs or individuals seeking advice in sports matters:
- Support and help to Clubs seeking to raise their profile:
- Events raising the awareness of Sport in the Trafford Area.
Aims & Objectives
From the beginning it has been the intention of the present Trafford Sports Council to promote and increase the participation in sport and draw the sports in Trafford together as a more unified body. To offer help and advice where ever possible and to be a link between Trafford Sports and the local and national sports authorities. With this in mind the TSpC have put together a development plan to enable them to realise their objectives over the next few years.
- To actively seek the needs and wishes of the sports Clubs and personnel in the Trafford Area.
- Instigate a mailing list of Clubs and Sports Personnel to promote and advertise the range of opportunities within the borough.
- Work with the Sports Development Officers in Trafford to ensure that initiatives taken by the Borough and the Sports Council are mutually supportive and efficiently expedited.
- Developing a rolling programme of courses, as part of the Trafford Coach Scheme to provide opportunities for coaches to train in many required areas.
- Assist Coaches in the Borough to obtain clearance from the Criminal Records Bureau. Provide a ‘help line’ for Coaches, helpers and Sports participants.
Clubs Forum
In partnership with Sports Development the Trafford MBC with Trafford Sports Council launching their Clubs forum (18th July 07) to gain Clubs views on the issues that affect them and the areas in which they see there are gaps. The Sports Council will then be the voice of the Clubs and feed this information into a strategic group tasked with tackling these and other issues. A significant amount of funding will be available to establish projects meeting the appropriate needs.
