You may be aware that there are some new developments soon to be implemented regarding CRB’s and the new Independent Safeguarding Authority. As an Umbrella Body and signatories for the CRB the Trafford Sports Council has released information to assist clubs with the transition. Click here (12th Oct09)
A CRB Disclosure is required for any person involved in regular or long-term contact with Children under the age of 18 or with vulnerable adults and the Trafford Sports Council require a disclosure be completed every three years.
Whether Coaching, helping or being present at the Club as an Administrator, with children or vulnerable adults at your Club you may need to gain Criminal Records Bureau check.
Both the Safeguarding and Protecting Children course and the Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure are not pieces of legal bureaucracy but have been put in put in place to protect children, adults and organisations involving young people and vulnerable adults.
Trafford Sports Council are a Registered Body for processing CRB Disclosures. We are authorised to process the applications, can assist with the completion of the form and will verify all the documentation required by the CRB to check identities.
The cost of processing a CRB disclosure is £8 for a volunteer and £49 for anyone who requires the disclosure for their employment.
The Trafford Sports Council’s copy of the disclosure is kept in secure storage (please see the Policy on secure handling) for one year. The Applicants name, employer or organisation, job title, disclosure number and issue date are kept on the Sports Council data base for three years.
Renewing an Application
CRB Disclosure must be re-applied for every three years. When an application has been processed by TSpC an automatic reminder will be sent to the applicant towards the end of the three year period.

Costs
The Trafford Sports council has been notified by the Criminal Records Bureau that as from 1st April 2011 the cost of a non-volunteer Disclosure Application will increase by £5. Although the Trafford Sports council has not increased its admin charge of £5 for over five years, the rising cost of postage, envelopes and paper have necessitated a £3 increase in its admin charge.
The cost of Disclosure Applications from the 1st of April 2011 will be as follows:
Paid Sports personnel £49
Un-paid volunteers £8
Proposed changes to Criminal Record Checks
There are several proposals being put forward under the Protection of Freedom Bill 2010-2011. When these proposals become established fact I will contact you with the information. The bill is not expected to become law until early 2012 with the proposed changes introduced gradually.
