Sport Trafford
Trafford Sports Development has transferred to Trafford Community Leisure Trust and is now Sport Trafford. They are currently having a whole new website designed for them which will be accessed through the Trafford Community Leisure Trust website. It will be much more comprehensive and user friendly than the present one.
GO3 website The site contains information on sports and physical activity sessions and clubs within the borough in order to help signpost people to participate in the recommended 3 x 30 minutes of exercise per week.
The list of activities is being added to all the time.
Clubs are asked to visit periodically at www.go3trafford.co.uk and use the search facility to find your club, not forgetting to click the sports clubs only box to review your entry. If there are any amendments that need to be made let me know. Jenny Burton - see address in left panel
Funding
The Sport Trafford Club Development Fund has been established to assist clubs to gain and maintain club accreditation and continue their development.
The application process is simple and straightforward but guidance notes are also provided for further clarification.
Details of scheme and application form (Download)
The fund is a great opportunity for clubs who are either working towards or have achieved accreditation to
obtain financial assistance to support their development. The aim of the fund is to assist clubs to gain and
maintain accreditation and to enhance the service offered to both its members and the wider community.
The fund is split into five categories with a capped amount available per application in each category. A
maximum of three categories can be applied for in one financial year and no more than one application per
category can be made during the same period.
The five categories cover course fees, publicity costs, CRB checks, alternative activity sessions and school
club link work. Further information and examples of what can be applied for are included on the application
form. The alternative activity category however, is a new area of work that is being encouraged. Alternative
activities would be those that encourage members to participate where they may not normally do so. For
example the establishment of an aerobics or yoga session for those parents who would normally drop their
children off at the club, leave and collect them an hour later. Not only do alternative activities encourage new
or additional participation but also promote greater involvement at the club.
Making an application to the fund is simple and there are no deadline dates by which applications have to be
submitted. The fund will only support work that has been carried out within that financial year. For example
the starting point for applications in the 2009 / 2010 financial year is 1st April 2009. Funds will be allocated
until the pot is spent then the application process will be suspended until the start of the new financial year
when a new pot will be available.
Funds are allocated retrospectively for work undertaken within the financial year and proof of spend, as
detailed on the form, must be provided with any application.

Street to Stadium grant.
The Street to Stadium fund will be closing on 31st March 2010. If you know of anyone between 11 – 19 years old with difficult personal or social circumstances that sport makes a difference for, the fund could be for them. They do not have to excel at a particular sport, but sport does have to make a difference to their lives. The minimum grant is £50 up to a maximum of £500. Examples of things that can be applied for are essential equipment, travel for coaching, training fees, coaching fees, competition fees etc.
Applicants must live in Trafford, Salford, Tameside or Manchester and contact details for the boroughs can be found at the link below.
Application forms can be downloaded from www.traffordleisure.co.uk/sporttrafford/StreettoStadium.html and the website also provides additional information.
It would be appreciated if you could promote the fund throughout your club and to any young people that may be appropriate to make an application.
Please be aware that although the fund is due to close on 31st March if the remaining money is allocated before this date the fund will close early.
Jenny Burton (August 2009)
Please note that the fund is now closed for applications as the money left in the pot has all been allocated. The Fund was due to close at the end of the financial year or when the monies ran out, the latter has occurred first. (17th Dec 2009)
Cash 4 Clubs is a relatively new grant funding pot specifically for community clubs. Grants can be applied for to purchase new equipment, improve facilities, gain coaching qualifications and to generally invest in the club and its future.
Grants are available in three tiers of £250, £500 or £1,000. Clubs can apply providing they are affiliated to their National Governing Body or with their local authority. The application form is an online form and one of the questions relates to your clubs progress with accreditation. The form appears very straightforward and should be relatively quick to complete.
The Cash 4 Clubs website is very comprehensive and can be found at www.cash-4-clubs.com It provides details on the fund, what can and can’t be applied for, examples of successful projects and guidance on timescales.
All clubs have either a project or require some equipment that they could apply to the fund for. There are no closing dates for applications to be submitted by but a judging panel meets 4 times a year to assess the applications they have received to that point. The next judging panel meeting is early September 2009
Currently no clubs from the North West have gained funding due to the infancy of the fund. I would urge everyone to have a look at the site or pass the details onto a colleague at the club to ensure the club does not miss out.

Trafford Sports Awards is an annual event, the winners of which feed into the Greater Manchester Sports Awards. Jenny Burton writes:..........
Due to several factors the date for the Greater Manchester event has been moved next year which consequently has a knock on effect to the Trafford event. The Trafford Sports Awards are now due to take place in September 2010 as opposed to the usual February. Nominations will be accepted for achievements that have occurred between July 2009 and July 2010. Obviously these dates do not apply to the Unsung Hero award as this is not an “of the year” award.
Nomination forms are not yet available but if you have someone in mind who you feel would be an ideal nominee feel free to email and I will send a form directly to you when they are available.
Details of the categories and criteria can be found to give you a start on the previous nomination form
In due course we will also be announcing a new partner in the Trafford Sports Awards which will lead to several exciting new developments.
We are very keen to continue with our success at the County event and have a winning streak to maintain with Trafford’s Coach of the Year also being crowned the Greater Manchester winner this year. (Added 4th Oct 09)
